THE RSIPF (Royal Solomon Islands Police Force) have begun its exercise of providing cyber protection awareness programs in schools and communities around the country.
A total of 15 RSIPF Cyber Protection trainers have already been deployed to schools and communities throughout the country.
Police Commissioner, Frank Prendergast revealed that this was part of the Cyber Safety Pacifika initiative, signed by Pacific Islands Head of Police in 2012 which Solomon Islands is a member of.
The initiative is aimed at protecting citizens of all Pacific Island states from the dangers associated with the internet.
“The RSIPF is committed to raising public awareness on cyber protection, especially to the vast majority of internet users, which is the young people of Solomon Islands.
“We have trainers currently conducting cyber protection awareness in schools and communities.
“So far we have already completed awareness programs in four of the major schools in Honiara,” Mr Prendergast said.
Mr Prendergast also clarified that various areas in which people ought to be cautious off which include: cyber bulling, sex offenders, chat room pals, sending of money through internet, personal bank accounts and many more.
“These are just some of the things that this program aims to make people aware of.
“It will give people much broader ideas about the internet and the dangers that associate with it,” he said.
