THE Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has arrested a suspect allegedly responsible for killing a man at Lambi area northwest Guadalcanal, Monday night this week.
Guadalcanal police commander, Nixon Manetonga told Solomon Star that his officers attended to the scene and arrested the suspect the same night.
He said from evidence gathered by the police so far, the deceased collapsed after he was kicked on the back by a drinking partner following an argument.
Police said both the deceased and the suspect were under the influence of liquor when they entered into a heated argument.
This resulted in the suspect kicking the deceased from the back.
Police said the deceased collapsed and died instantly.
Mr Manetonga said police transported the body of the deceased to the National Referral Hospital where a post-mortem was expected to be carried out to determine the cause of his death.
Northwest Guadalcanal news stringer for Solomon Star, John Toki said the tragic death of the man caused shock to the surrounding community residents of Northwest Guadalcanal.
He said the deceased and the suspect were close relatives.
Mr Toki said community leaders at Lambi area have appealed for calm and restrain by the two parties to allow police to do their mandated duties on the incident.
He said that the deceased has left behind two children and wife.
Meanwhile in court yesterday, the suspect Francis Junior Chiele was remanded in custody to January 26, when he will face the Honiara Magistrates’ Court again for the murder charge.
He is without a lawyer yesterday when the remand application was made before Principal Magistrate Fatima Taeburi.
The alleged incident occurred on Monday (January 11) at Kojuku Village at Lambi.
