POLICE preparations for the upcoming national general elections is said to be well underway.
Police Commissioner, Frank Prendergast said Police have been carrying out high visibility operations in the past week in Honiara, Guadalcanal and other provinces in the country in lead up to the election.
“We are very much engaged in our community awareness and engagement programs in all locations. Apart of that engagement, deputy commissioner operations and support, Junita Matanga is in Renbel over the last week engaging with the communities …,” Mr Prendergast said.
He said a peaceful election will not just be the responsibility of the police, but is an entire community effort.
Mr Prendergast said deployment of officers to parts of the country will start next week.
Meanwhile, he calls for the continued support of the community for a peaceful election, since it is a joint responsibility of the police, stakeholders and members of the community.
