Police at Tetere have arrested a male suspect in his 30’s following an unlawful wounding incident which occurred at Kulu village, Reko area on Guadalcanal, Sunday morning.
Police alleged the suspect attacked another male victim at his village with a 25cm bush knife, wounding the victim on his left arm before he escaped.
Police were alerted of the report deployed to arrest the suspect, but found out on arrival that the suspected had already been apprehended by community elders and voluntarily handed him over.
The suspect has been charged with unlawful wounding and is kept in police custody for further investigations.
The victim is in stable condition and is receiving medical assistance from a nearby clinic.
Police acknowledged the trust and confidence demonstrated by the Reko community.
“This act of self responsibility to shut out criminals is a positive step to reducing anti-social behaviour in our societies and homes,” a statement from police said.
The statement said police will continue to work more closely with respective communities.
They urge members of the public to assist police on every criminal fronts, especially on anti-social attitudes relating to alcohol that police said is destroying the peace and safety within rural and township areas.
