A team of eight police officers from Auki was deployed to West Kwaio last Saturday afternoon to reclaim a stolen R4 vehicle.
Some drunken men in the area seized the vehicle after they stopped it and attacked the driver and his three passengers.
An Auki police officer told the Sunday Star the incident occurred near Maoa village.
He said the driver and his companions were returning home from Auki when their vehicle was attacked.
The officer said the driver and two of his passengers escaped with the vehicle key but the fourth person was held and assaulted.
The drunkards then used an object to start the vehicle and took off with it.
The matter was reported to police and yesterday, a team was deployed to the area, accompanied by the owner of the vehicle.
The person who was attacked sustained minor injuries, according to the officer.
Meanwhile, Auki police urged the public to respect the law as the nation heads toward the November 19 polls.
