The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) officers at Auki and Malu’u Police Station in Malaita Province are investigating the cause of death to a male who was found floating along the coast of his home village of Nuideli on 17th February 2025.
The 25-year-old deceased went fishing in his dugout canoe around 4pm on 17 February 2025.
Before his body was discovered around 7pm that same day, his canoe was first seen floating.
His relatives noticed there was no one in the canoe so they conducted a search and the body was eventually found.
Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Malaita Province Superintendent Michael Ramosaea, said police are working closely with the relatives of the deceased to ascertain the cause of his death.
Superintendent Ramosaea has appealed to members of Niudeli village and nearby villages to assist the police in their investigation by providing relevant information that will be useful to the investigation.
