POLICE have recorded 2017 Christmas and New Year season as very peaceful compared to previous ones.
Supervising Commissioner Juanita Matanga said the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has observed a lot of good behaviour from our people this festive season.
“We have observed there have been a lot of very good behaviour by our people through-out the country, especial in Honiara where we usually experienced a number of issues regarding the behaviour of our people,” Ms Matanga told journalists yesterday.
Ms Matanga said during previous festive season operations, they usually go out to areas to try and resolve problems in communities.
“But not this festive season,” she said.
She said they have received a number of offences or reports but they are minor in nature.
“I want to thank everyone especially those in community, community leaders and our people for this peaceful and quiet festive season.
“It was through your behaviour that enabled us to celebrate peacefully.”
Ms Matanga thanked everyone for this peaceful and quite festive season.
“We would like to see our people taking on those responsibilities to ensure when are out and about doing their own things that it was peaceful and harmony to others.”
She added that this peaceful festive season also indicate to them that there has been a change in our society.
She urged individuals to contribute towards that so that we ensure 2018 is a year we help enhance on what we need to aspire to develop our country.
She also thanked the RSIPF officers who left their families back at home to go out and do their job whilst everybody go out and celebrate this festive season.
“I thanked the officers through-out the country for their good work.
“I want to continue send the message to our people that we are now enter into the new year.
“It is good for us to continue to work together.
“It is good for us to continue to stand up as a country, as a member of this nation.
“No one will come and develop this nation.
“It is up to all of us Solomon Islanders to ensure that there is peace and sustainable harmony within our society so that development can happen in our country,” Ms Matanga further added.
