The RSIPF has thanked members of the community in Central Makira for their assistance in the recapture of a rape suspect who escaped from remand at the Correctional Service facility at Kira Kira last Friday 21 July 2017.
The 30-year old male was recaptured at midday on Monday 24 July 2017 at the Waihauru area, West Bauro in Central Makira following an intensive search involving Police in Kira Kira with assistance from members of the local community.
The rape suspect was now in police custody at the Kira Kira Police Station and will soon be returned to the Correctional Service facility in the provincial capital as his warrant of remand is still valid.
Police in Kira Kira will now investigate and charge the suspect for escaping from lawful custody.
“The early recapture of this rape suspect is a manifestation of how members of the community and the police can work together successfully to ensure our communities are safe from people who do not respect the laws of our country,” said Provincial Police Commander, Makira Province, Superintendent Peter Sitai.
Police officers involved in the successful operation have also been commended for their efforts in recapturing the remand prisoner.
