The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) will be installing Communications and Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking systems in its vehicles.
Police Commissioner Matthew Varley during yesterday’s 9th Australia Solomon Islands Business Forum announced that GPS devices will be installed on all the RSIPF- issued vehicles.
“This is to ensure that we know the location of travelling police vehicles,” he added.
Mr Varley was invited to speak at the forum on the theme ‘The future law and justice environment post-RAMSI.
He also assured investors and potential investors in Solomon Islands that the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force can be trusted and confided in after the departure of the RAMSI.
As part of its capacity-building efforts, the RSIPF is continuing with its recruitment exercise and the upgrade of its infrastructures and equipment.
In addition, the RSIPF will create a new portfolio that will look after national intelligence, national crime investigations, police prosecution, criminal records, transnational crime, forensics, national exhibits registry and the proposed Interpol national central bureau.
The new portfolio will be headed by an Assistant Commissioner Crime- a new position that will be created to look after the new portfolio.
