Man charged for having multiple sex with niece in Choiseul
A male suspect has been arrested for allegedly having multiple sexual intercourse with his niece at a village in Northwest Choiseul.
Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at Taro Police Station carried out the arrest and charged the suspect.
Choiseul Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Superintendent Berry Pogesopa, said these incidents occurred on different dates and locations between January 2023 to January 2025.
According to PPC Pogesopa, initial report shows the first incident took place when the victim was 14-years-old.
The last incident occurred on 21 January 2025, when the suspect took the victim and escaped into the bush and had sexual intercourse with her.
Members of the community conducted a search for the victim and found her with the suspect.
A report was filed at the Taro Police Station and the suspect was arrested.
The suspect was charged with the offence of Persistence Sexual Abuse of a Child Contrary to Section 142 of the Sexual Offence Amendment Act 2016.
PPC Pogesopa said the suspect is currently remanded at Gizo Correctional Services awaiting to appear in court on the later date.
He said investigations into this matter is ongoing therefore appealed to any person with relevant information to come forward and assist police with their investigation.

Police remands 26yr-old male for rape in West Are’are
A 26-year-old male person has been remanded for allegedly raping a 27-year-old female at West Are’’are, Malaita.
Police officers in Auki remanded the suspect.
The victim was feeding her family’s pigs when the alleged suspect raped her.
The incident occurred on 10th January 2025 and was reported to the police days later.
The arrest was delayed when the suspect fleed his village but subsequently, police arrested him.
Upon arrest, the suspect was remanded at Auki Correctional Centre awaiting his court appearance at the Auki Magistrate Court.
Malaita Provincial Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Tex Tafoa, acknowledged community leaders and members for their support which led to the arrest.
“It is indeed our collaborative efforts that create a safer community for our elders, children and vulnerable individuals,” Chief Superintendent Tafoa said.

Father arrested for incest
A FATHER has been arrested in Lata, Temotu for committing incest with his daughter.
Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) officers at Lata made the arrest.
The arrest comes after the 14-year-old daughter reported the matter to her mother who refer it to the police.
According to reports from Lata police, the father committed incest to the daughter in four occasions at different times between 2022 to November 2024.
The first incident occurred in 2022 when the victim was only 11-years-old.
No one knew or had any suspicion of what was going on until the fourth incident. These incidents came to light after the victim left their home and sought shelter at her relative’s home.
The young victim revealed what happen after her mother persistently questions her as to why she left their home. ‘
During the same week, the victim’s younger sister also informed their mother that she was also a victim.
The suspect is currently admitted at Lata hospital.
He sustained injuries after stabbing himself when police officers attended the report.
Temotu Provincial Police Commander, James Toaki, said it is unfortunate and concerning to see the rise in horrific incidents like this when homes and parents should be the safest place and people for kids.
“To victims and witnesses of similar incidents, we ask you to come forward and let police deal with crime perpetrators,” PPC Toaki said.

Man charged for suspected arson in East Are’Are
Officers from the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at Auki Police Station in Malaita Province have arrested and charged a man in his 50s for allegedly burning two excavators in East Are’are on 26 February 2025.
Malaita Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Chief Superintendent Tex Tafoa said the suspect, who has a history of criminal activity, reportedly had a dispute with a renowned logging company over financial matters.
The dispute is believed to have led to the destruction of the machines, valued at SBD$2 million.
The suspect has been charged with arson, Contrary to Section 319 of the Penal Code, and has been remanded at the Auki Correctional Centre to appear in court at a later date.
PPC Tafoa expressed his appreciation to officers who conducted the patrols and made the successful arrest.

Marijuana farmer arrested in Choiseul
A 27-year-old male in Choiseul who is allegedly involved in the cultivation of marijuana in a village near Taro Station has been arrested, charged and will face court.
Police at Taro Police Station successfully carried out the arrest.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Choiseul Province Superintendent Berry Pogesopa said, upon receiving reports about the suspect and his activity, police carried out an investigation that leads to the arrest.
During the arrest, the suspect was in possession of the drug. Police also uprooted his marijuana plants.
The suspect has been charged with two counts; (1) Growing of certain prohibited plants contrary to section 8 (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act and (2) Impossession of Dangerous Drug Contrary to Section 8 (b) of the Dangerous Drug Act.
Taro police has extended their gratitude to local communities in Taro for their continued support and cooperation.
“We encourage everyone to continue working together to combat crime and ensure the safety and wellbeing of our communities in Choiseul Province,” says PPC Pogesopa.
