For any protest to take place in Auki town it must first be endorsed by the Malaita provincial premier and the provincial secretary says Malaita Provincial Police Commander.
David Wate was responding to a Malaita group named Isles of Ramos Peoples’ Power (IRPP) who earlier stated their intention to stage a protest against Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare in his next a visit to Malaita province.
The group said it has lost trust in PM Sogavare after all the national projects ear marked for Malaita province failed to be implemented during his time in office.
“Before any interested groups can carry on public activity in Auki town, they must first seek permission from the Malaita Provincial premier Peter Ramohia and Provincial Secretary Jackson Gege, he said.
“The group Isles of Ramos Peoples’ Power must seek permission from the provincial leaders, not only that, but they must also inform us police of their plan.”
This is to allow police to provide public security and to make sure the activity is free of crime in a lawful manner”, he added.
Meanwhile, information received from the group yesterday stated that they are currently in the process of following the requirements to make sure the group is given green light to carry out the planned protest against the PM.
The group in a statement on Wednesday said they are looking forward for the protest against the PM in his next visit to Malaita province.
