POLICE have assured Honiara residents and the rest of the country that its ‘business as usual’ in the capital and no one or any group has been given any permission to stage a march or protest in the city.
“It is unlawful for anyone or group who tries to stage a march or demonstration in Honiara or anywhere in the provinces of Solomon Islands without the appropriate permission,” Assistant Commissioner of Police, National Capital and Crime Prevention, Simpson Pogeava said.
“Police appeal to the law abiding citizens of Honiara and the rest of Solomon Islands to stay away from any illegal gatherings and to go about their normal business,” he added.
“Schools and businesses are encouraged to operate as normal.
“We urge the media including social media not to unnecessarily scare the law abiding citizens of Solomon Islands by publishing untruthful and threatening statements.”
Police also urged any member of the public who may have information about anyone planning to cause violence in Honiara to contact your nearest police station or call phones 23666 or 999.
Officers of the RSIPF are continuing their visibility patrols in Honiara to provide reassurance that the security of the city is under control as well as conduct community engagements to provide information to the people and communities.
