His Grace Archbishop Christopher Cardone OP, Archbishop of Honiara, has officially confirmed on Easter Monday evening the passing of the beloved Holy Father, Pope Francis, 88.
In a statement Archbishop Cardone announced; “In this time of sorrow for the Universal Church, Archbishop Cardone extends his heartfelt condolences and calls upon all the faithful in the Solomon Islands to unite in prayer, thanksgiving, and reverent remembrance for the life and ministry of Pope Francis.”
A more detailed official statement from Archbishop Christopher Cardone OP will be released today, Tuesday.
“Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen,” he said.
Following the Pope’s death the bell of Holy Cross Cathedral in Honiara tolled solemnly at 8:18pm Solomon Islands Time (SBT) on Monday night, joining cathedrals and churches around the world in mourning the death of His Holiness Pope Francis, the 266th successor of Saint Peter.
Archbishop Christopher Cardone OP, has called upon all Catholics in the Solomon Islands to join in prayer and thanksgiving for the life and ministry of Pope Francis.
