POLICE in Auki, Malaita Province are investigating the Fiu Bridge murder case in a neutral way, says Malaita Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Superintendent Leslie Kili.
PPC Kili is responding to a call made by the mother of the juvenile suspect who is currently remanded in the Auki Correctional Centre (ACC) awaiting court for the murder.
The PPC said police are neutral in their investigation into the matter, adding that so far only one suspect was put on remand in relation to the killing of a young man in his 20s last December. The ‘lifeless’ body of the young man was discovered beneath Fiu Bridge near Auki.
Following the arrest, the mother of the suspect told Solomon Star Auki that her son is innocent.
She said there are other key suspects out there that police should investigate, arrest and put behind bars instead of her son.
However, responding to the mother, PPC Kili said the case is now under police investigation and encouraged the family of the suspect to remain calm, adding that nothing will be hidden when the matter is taken before the court.
“Please trust police with the investigation as investigation continues into the matter.
“Police are not taking sides as we continue with our normal duty to investigate crimes and arrest those who are responsible according to our investigation and findings.”
PPC Kili then called on the mother of the suspect not to interfere with police investigation into the murder.
He also called on those who have sufficient information about the murder to assist police with their investigation.
