Temotu Provincial Government has acknowledged the government through the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) for their timely response following the devastation caused by cyclone Pam fortnight ago.
The cyclone has badly struck Vanutau and caused damages to food crops and food trees on Reefs, Anuta, Tikopia and Duff Islands.
Speaking to the paper yesterday Temotu Premier Buddley Soakifono said, the assessment team from Honiara arrived in Lata yesterday to pick up other members of the assessment team and have left for the affected islands.
The assessment team from NDMO from Honiara left on Thursday on boat Patrol boat Lata which was loaded with relief supplies.
The team will be working along with Temotu Provincial Disaster Committee and the Temotu Emergency Support Centre.
Mr Soakifono yesterday said, “at the moment I could not say anything about the disaster on the affected islands until the team returns. But I would like to thank the Solomon Island Government (SIG) through NDMO for their quick response to my call last week since our people are in desperate need,” Mr Soakifono said.
