THE Malaita New Government for Fundamental Redirection Government (MNGFR) under the leadership of Premier, Martin Fini, has held its first dialogue with the National Government and a number of international donor partners in Honiara last week.
Premier Fini, in his 2023-2024 Budget Speech on the floor of the Malaita Provincial Assembly on Tuesday, announced that he was pleased with the outcome of his delegation’s recent ‘engagement and dialogue’ with the National Government and a number of international donor partners in the national capital.
The MNGFR met and dialogued with the envoy of the Japanese Government in Honiara, Ambassador Miwa Yoshiaki, Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare and his DCGA government, Australian Government officials and also officials of the Peoples’ Republic of China.
“Our first engagement and dialogue were with the government of Japan through her Ambassador to Solomon Islands. The Japanese Ambassador received us with open arms.
“Our second engagement and dialogue were with the Honourable Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare and his government. We could not have wished for a better outcome.
“That meeting too had been very successful. It has set the scene for future engagements and dialogues on our many unsettled issues. The Prime Minister was very gracious in accepting my delegation and he pledged the full support of his government to work closely with MNGFR going forward.
“Our third engagement and dialogue were with Australia. Like the previous two meetings, this third one was also very successful and it paved a way for future engagements and dialogues.
“Our fourth and final engagement and dialogue were with the Peoples’ Republic of China (PRC). As you may be already aware, this meeting was a great success as well. His Excellency, the Ambassador, described the meeting as a historic one, given the attitude and treatment accorded to PRC by the previous regime.
“The Ambassador used the opportunity to also clear a lot of misinformation about PRC’s interest in developing our infrastructure. Like all the previous meetings, this successful meeting has also paved the way for future engagements and dialogues.
“PRC is pleased that the intervention by the MNGFR is finally speaking the international language for development,” Premier Fini said.
