WESTERN Province Premier Billy Veo has highlighted the progress of several national projects aimed at improving infrastructure facilities across the province at the Western Provincial Assembly Meeting last week.
One of the projects highlighted was the Seghe Market Project, a collaboration between the Australia Government-funded Solomon Islands Infrastructure Project (SIIP) and the Western Provincial Government (WPG) and United Church of the Solomon Islands (UCSI).
Premier Veo said work has commenced on the project after a contractual agreement was signed with Hatanga Ltd for the construction works.
Another of the projects is the Seghe Terminal Project, construction works on which the Premier said are expected to begin shortly.
“Additionally, plans are in motion for the Seghe Terminal Project, which is expected to begin shortly.”
Another project is the Noro Road Project, which Premier Veo said is making progress, although some challenges remain, particularly regarding the section leading to Tuna Park, which is located in front of the Noro Lodge.
“The [Western Provincial] Government, through the Lands Division, is collaborating with the Commissioner of Lands to resolve these issues.
“However, there is a pressing need for timely resolution, as the Solomon Islands Roads and Aviation Project (SIRAP), has indicated that failure to address these concerns could result in that portion of the road being excluded from the project, a scenario the government is keen to avoid,’’ Premier Veo said.
The premier said these infrastructure development projects are crucial and the Western Provincial Government stakeholders remain hopeful for positive outcomes that will we better infrastructure facilities and enhanced services.
