Malaita premier Peter Ramohia welcomed his new Minister for Local Government and Community Development Fred Wai, Saturday.
Wai is the provincial assembly member for Ward 12 in the Lau Lagoon of north Malaita.
He took his Oath of Allegiance yesterday to replace Michael Maeliau, who resigned early this month.
Ramohia thanked Wai for his availability and faith in Malaita Alliance for Reform and Transformation (MART) Government, which he is now a part of.
The premier explained that under section 20 of the Provincial Government Act, government has the responsibility to appoint a minister to look after a vacant portfolio.
He said MART government believes and trust the inclusion of Wai to continue maintaining government service to Malaita.
He adds that it is the interest of Malaita provincial government to pick Wai for the replacement of Maeliau.
“Why we chose Wai is because of vision and insights he has to look after this ministry.
“My government hopes that despite the remaining month left for new provincial election, we will continue to work together to achieve some of the aims and goals we want achieved.”
Witnessing the swearing in of Wai were provincial secretary Jackson Gege, speaker Titus Fika and deputy premier Alick Maeaba.
