THE election of a new premier for Western Province has been adjourned to Monday 9th January 2023.
Western Province Assembly Speaker Ramrakah Talasasa said this was because the two candidates for the premier’s position were unable to secure an absolute majority in votes.
“We cannot elect the new premier unless the number of votes must be absolute majority.
“And so this election will proceed on Monday 9th next week,” Speaker Talasasa said.
During the election of the premier only one Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) was absent.
A total of 25 MPAs were present during the election today. During the election one candidate received 10 votes and the other 13 votes.
Meanwhile, the two candidates vying for the premier’s post are MPA Billy Veo and MPA Eddie Ngava.
