A village elder has praised the work of priests during the festive period.
Allen Sina said priests played a huge role in reducing alcohol in parishes throughout Malaita especially.
“In our areas, parish priest visited villages on the Christmas and New Year’s eve.
“They moved from village to village to conduct holy masses.
“That was a great spiritual work for our people.”
He said in their areas, it was up to individuals to choose between a church service and social activities.
“Church services had disturbed a lot of alcohol activities which must be encouraged.
“This work must be reciprocated in other parts of the country during such big events.”
He said other church elders and preachers from other religions also did great jobs during the period.
“I particularly praised priests because I have witnessed their restlessness in ensuring all villages were given holy masses before enjoying their activities.”
The village elder said some priest walked rugged mountains within a span of one night to cover villages.
“I was encouraged by this great spiritual service.”
