AFTER repeated calls by transport owners for the repair of roads within Malaita’s Auki township, work has already been carried out.
Last weekend, a private business man engaged contractors to fill up potholes and re-leveled bumpy roads.
Auki transport service providers have raised concerns recently about the deteriorating state of roads within Auki.
Wilson Ne’e said he has a heart for the town and people of Malaita therefore hired machines to do the upgrading work.
“It was so sad to see the roads in Auki town beyond believe but continued to be ignored by the provincial government.
“Auki town is my home and a place we Malaitans should be proud of.
“I am not here to blame the government or anyone failing to do its job, but it’s my own free desire to see the township improved.
“Although it costs me a lot of money, it is worth it because this is where foreigners first get a picture of Malaita.”
Mr Ne’e said rural people need transport to get their produces into town therefore in order for transport owners to willingly do that; roads must be in sound state.
Transport owners and the public thanked Mr Ne’e for the freewill support and called on the province to do its job.
“Without Mr Ne’e, the poor state of the roads will remain unattended to. It is with sheer luck that Mr Ne’e chipped in with his free-will support.
Mr Ne’e also thanked Trades Transformation Company (TTC) for providing their machines for the road work.
