Dear Editor – We refer to the article by Jennifer Kusapa, titled: ‘Prosecution Awaits GG’, published in the Island Sun on 4th March 2014, at page 7, Issue No. 1632.
The article was in relation to an accused, Andrew Adifaka, who was charged with two counts of unlawful wounding but is unable to take his plea because of his mental condition. It is alleged in the article that the Prosecution wrote a letter to the Governor-General to consider the case of the accused.
It is further alleged that the Prosecution is still waiting for a response from the Governor-General; and that the matter was further adjourned to allow the prosecution to cross check with the Government House.
We wish to let your readers know that there is no such letter written by the Prosecution requesting the Governor-General to consider the case of Andrew Adifaka regarding his inability to take any plea.
From our records, the Government House did not receive any letter from the Prosecution regarding this matter. Therefore, there is nothing for the Governor-General to consider.
Yours sincerely,
Rawcliffe Ziza
Deputy Private Secretary
