PROSECUTION is currently sorting charges against an elderly man accused of abducting a girl between the age of 12 and 13-years-old in Temotu Province.
The man in his sixties, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the girl, is facing 12 counts of abduction charges.
These charges are in relation to alleged incidents which occurred between 2015 and 2016 in Temotu Province.
The accused appeared in court on Thursday and his case was further adjourned to March 23rd.
Public Prosecutor John Wesley Zoze, who appeared on instructions of his colleague Freliz Fakarii, told the court that there are some issues with the charges.
He said Ms Fakarii needs time to consider the charges first before making amendments on the charges.
Principal Magistrate Tearo Beneteti directed prosecution to send the amendment charges to the defence as soon as possible if they are to make any amendments.
She told Mr Zoze to convey the direction to his colleague.
Public Solicitor’s lawyer Leonard Chite had informed the court that he is the accused’s lawyer.
He said he was just recently allocated the file.
The court heard that full disclosures were already served to him.
