All ten Provinces have beefed up their preparedness to counter any possible outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country.
According to the latest situation report, preventative measures taken by provinces are in alignment with the National Government’s measures to mitigate possible importation of COVID-19.
Currently, awareness of COVID-19 is ongoing in all provinces and Honiara city. All ten Provinces have already identified Institutional Quarantine facilities as their preparedness intensifies.
In Choiseul, the Provincial Disaster Operations Center has updated its people on their coordination plans. In Rennell Bellona Province the Premier has instructed mining and logging companies to avail their makeshift container offices as backup Quarantine Facilities should the one identified at Tingoa station is not sufficient to handle COVID-19 cases. Western Province, on the other hand, has already set up its Quarantine center located at the old Hospital area in Gizo.
Meanwhile, the Honiara City and Guadalcanal Province Emergency Operation Centers are now fully operational. The Municipal Disaster Operations Committee and the Provincial Operations committee have since held several meetings to plan out countermeasures should there be an outbreak.
Honiara City and Guadalcanal Province remain the two most likely entry points of COVID-19.
