Permanent Secretary (PS) Ministry of Mines, Energy & Rural Electrification Jeffrey Kauha, has been terminated from office.
The revelation came as the Mines Director; Peter Auga also reported received a suspension letter last week said, to be related to the Rennell Mining saga.
Kauha this week confirmed receiving his termination letter May 22 2015.
“Yes, I can confirm my termination,” he told this paper.
“It is now clear that some decisions of the Ministry and the Mines and Mineral Board does not go down well with some Ministers within the Cabinet.”
Believing his removal is orchestrated from within the Cabinet by certain Ministers who believed, he is a hindrance to their interest.
The letter served by the Secretary to Cabinet, James Remobatu states, Jeffery Kauha effective on the date receiving the letter is no longer a Permanent Secretary.
An early departure to his initial contract with the Government expected to end August 1st 2015.
“I write to inform and advice that the Public Service Commission in its 161h/2015 meeting on 20th May 2012 has endorsed the termination of your appointment as Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Mines, Energy and Rural Electrification forthwith with immediate effect.
“…the Commission had also approved the termination of the Agreement of Service you had executed with the Secretary to the Prime Minister on 1st of August 2011.
“Pursuant to the endorsement and approval of the Public Service Commission, you are hereby notified that your appointment as a Permanent Secretary is hereby revoked and your Agreement of Service executed by you on the 1st of August, 2011 is hereby terminated forthwith pursuant to clause 26.0 (e) of that same Agreement.
“This means the Solomon Islands Government will pay you the required notice period up to 1st August 2015 in lieu of notice.
“All entitlements accorded to you under that Agreement of Service with the Solomon Islands Government are also terminated as of today’s date with immediate effect.”
The letter explains the removal basing it on the interest of the Government and Mines Ministry to have a new leadership.
“The Government has decided to terminate your appointment and Agreement of Service in the interest of the Government and the Ministry of Mines Energy and Rural Electrification and to have new leadership in that Ministry to drive the implementation of Government policy objectives and programs and to take the process of trying to restore the credibility and integrity and reputation of the Ministry in light of recent developments affecting the image and integrity of that Ministry.”
