Central Islands Provincial executive members were being reminded of their responsibilities of ensuring the implementation of developments and delivering of services to people.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening Stanley D Pirione made the reminder during the swearing in of members on Friday.
“Your responsibilities as leaders are to make sure services of health, education and others are delivered to the people accordingly,” Mr Pirione said.
He said it is usual that people expect cash from you, which is not your primary responsibility.
“You are legislators and agents to the national government for efficient service delivery.
“Knowing your responsibilities; the national government through the Ministry of Provincial Government is grateful to cooperate and will continue to recognize your government’s efforts.”
He also expresses the national governments interest to settle outstanding issues with the Central Province government, in establishing a good relationship.
Central Province Premier, Selwyn Mapuli welcomed the statement and pledged his executive’s cooperation.
Mr Mapuli said he wanted to see an alignment of development priorities by the national government with his government on the long term.
“Agreeing together on whatever developments or service delivery to my people with the national government is important.
“This is something that my executive will be looking forward to, where we can possibly fit in,” he said.
