The Solomon Islands Public Solicitor’s Office (PSO) is partnering with the Australian Government Solicitor (AGS) to deliver a training program to up-skill the next generation of PSO lawyers.
PSO lawyers play an important part in the law and justice system, helping the general public to understand their legal rights and responsibilities, navigate the legal system, provide advice and representation in court.
The new partnership between PSO and AGS is aimed at equipping the Office to serve the people of Solomon Islands, in Honiara and throughout the provinces.
Australian High Commissioner to Solomon Islands, His Excellency Rod Hilton, said this was an exciting new part of law and justice support to Solomon Islands.
“Australia is an enduring law and justice sector partner in Solomon Islands,” High Commissioner Hilton said.
“We know that a strong law and justice system supports a safe, secure and prosperous Solomon Islands, and the Public Solicitor’s Office plays a crucial part in that system.”

“This program will help ensure that all Solomon Islanders can access legal assistance, especially those most vulnerable in the community.”
Public Solicitor George Gray said that the training program was the first of its kind in the Solomon Islands.
“The Public Solicitor’s Office serves the whole Solomon Islands,” Mr Gray said.
“This training is crucial as we expand the remit of our practice to cover civil matters as well as criminal matters.”
“We thank Australia for supporting the work of the Public Solicitor’s Office, and ensuring we have the skills we need to carry out our important mandate”.
