Police Commissioner Frank Prendergast has thanked the members of the public for behaving well during the good-will visit made by the Taiwanese Navy squadron early this week.
When speaking to the local media during a police press conference yesterday, the police chief said, the public has displayed a friendly welcome and a peaceful behavior to the visiting ROC-Taiwan Navy squadron.
“The police would like to thank the public for their very peaceful behavior and very friendly welcome they gave to the visiting Taiwanese squadron.
“Communities in the country have also responded well to the visit,” Mr Prendergast said.
The police commissioner also denied receiving reports that some of the Navy squadrons were attacked by members of the public.
“I haven’t aware of the reports.
“But now that I am aware of that, I will check with the Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Honiara on that,” the police boss said.
Meanwhile, Mr Prendergast said the Ambassador of ROC-Taiwan, His Excellency Victor Te-sun YU was very happy with how the visit was conducted.
