THE Gizo public are stunned after last Monday night’s events which saw a senior female police officer stoning the Gizo Police Station after an argument.
According to witnesses, the female officer had an argument with other officers on duty and then came out and started hauling stones at the building.
Witnesses said they were stunned that the officers on duty did not do anything about it, which resulted in her throwing more stones at the police station.
“We were indeed deeply saddened and surprised at the attitude displayed by the senior well known female officer, and also of the fact that the officers on duty did not attempt to stop her stoning the station,” one eye-witness said.
“This is totally a bad example for the public, especially having an officer of the crown stoning the police station, something that totally goes against the Police’s code of conduct.
“She stoned the Office three to four times, before she herself backed away.
“This is indeed a shameful act for Police, especially seeing one of their own, stone the Police Office which is the symbol of the community,” witnesses told this paper.
The public have called upon Gizo Provincial Police Commander (PPC) John Rove and also the Police Commissioner to act on this and have the officer relieved of her duties, as what she had displayed were unprofessional and against the law.
When contacted, Mr Rove did not deny nor confirm the incident, but said he will look into the matter.
