An undersea earthquake of magnitude 6.3 occurred at 3:17pm, approximately 20 km west of Auki, Malaita Province, Friday.
But it failed to generate a tsunami.
The Weather Office issued a statement minutes after the quake hit, saying there was no tsunami warning.
