REPORTS have surfaced linking local legal practitioner, Wilson Rano to be the front runner for the Attorney General’s (AG) post.
Sources revealed to this paper that the DCCG (Democratic Coalition for Change Government) has already earmarked Mr Rano to be their AG for the next four years. It was further disclosed that Mr Rano is Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare’s preferred choice for the post.
The sources also revealed that already the Prime Minister is seeking legal advice from Mr Rano on a regular basis prior to making decisions.
“He (Rano) is Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare’s preferred choice for Attorney General.
“DCCG in particularly the Prime Minister and his Deputy have already engaged Mr Rano and seek his legal advice on various issues at the national level.
“What lays ahead for Mr Rano? That remains a question to ask the Prime Minister, however it looks likely that Mr Rano will land the AG post,” the source said.
The Attorney General’s post had recently been advertised with suitable candidates encouraged to apply.
Solomon Star understands that prior to the formation of the DCCG, a lot of top legal practitioners were behind the DCCG, however many have so far faded from the picture.
Mr Rano could not be reached for comments on the matter yesterday.
