This week is Solomon Islands Red Cross Society appeal week.
A statement from Red Cross said, this special event kicked off on the 12th to 15th of May, which was yesterday until Friday.
The statement said, the appeal week which is an event regularly organised by the Society and is part of its resources mobilisation strategy, in which it aims to find ways to raise funds to support the shortfalls in the finances donated by other Partner National Societies, ICRC, IFRC and other donor agencies.
Similarly, to help it meet the cost of the programs that it currently is running in respective communities throughout the country.
Organised as part of the appeal week is a drive, which involves a combined Red Cross and Youth at Work volunteers who have shown interest to join the drive travelling to certain residential, business houses and private company areas around Honiara city asking for donations of any amount.
In light of this appeal week and the drive, the public is also informed to take caution and lookout for those who would be taking advantage of the drive and make money for themselves.
“Those who are engaged in this appeal week will wear a reflective vest having the logo of the Society as well as a card showing the name of the person and the Solomon Islands Red Cross logo.
“Anyone who does not wear a card and vest having the Solomon Islands Red Cross Society logo is not part of the drive and hence if asking for money should not be responded to” said the Secretary General Ms. Joanne Zoleveke.
Individuals, businesses and households throughout the city are encouraged to give donations.
Donations received during the appeal week will go towards assisting the programs that the society is currently implementing in respective areas around the country.
Moreover, to be able to cater to assist in response to any disasters that will be happening anywhere in the country in the near future.
The Solomon Islands Red Cross Society as known is part of the Red Cross and Red Crescent worldwide, which is a voluntary institution.
Likewise, all national societies in most of the countries the movement has a national society play the role and function of an auxiliary to the public authorities.
