Solomon Islands Red Cross Society Malaita Branch has come out to thank all who have supported its fundraising dinner that was successfully held on Saturday 14th August 2021. The fundraising was held to support the Branch in its work assisting the provincial authorities extending humanitarian services to the people of Malaita Province, a statement from Red Cross Media Unit said.
Making her remarks to thank those who have supported the branch in hosting the gala dinner, branch President Ms. Julie Oge said that the branch is so grateful to all who have contributed in one way or another in supporting this event.
“We are so humbled with the great support we have received from the public and private individuals, institutions, organisations and businesses towards this dinner event”, Ms. Oge said.
She also indicated that while it was their first time to organise such an event especially in Honiara, the support they received from public and private institutions, businesses, sister organisations and individuals is overwhelming.
Meanwhile, in his key address during the dinner, the Deputy Prime Minister and Member for East Malaita Manasseh Maelanga highlighted that since its establishment, the branch has been helping the authorities respond to the numerous humanitarian situation that have caused devastation to the lives of the people of the province.
“In saying this, the Solomon Islands Red Cross Society Malaita Branch since its establishment in the 1980s, has been providing support to the Malaita Provincial Government, more particularly in the humanitarian sector.
“This is in terms of responding to tropical cyclone effects such as destruction of homes by strong winds or flooding, destruction to water sources due to flooding caused by heavy rains linked to cyclone as well as diseases outbreak including diarrhea, that often occurs as a result of polluted drinking water sources and limited hygiene knowledge”, Mr Maelanga stressed.
Likewise, the fundraising dinner was attended by many public and private organisations and businesses.
Government institutions and public figures who were part of the dinner include the Prime Ministers Office (PMO), Government Communication Unit (GCU), Aoke Langalanga Constituency representatives, Honorable Rex Ramofafia, Honorable Rollen Seleso and Malaita Provincial Government.
Among non-government organisations and businesses that support the dinner World Vision Solomon Islands, St.John’s Ambulance, Solrice Company Limited, Top Timber, Quan Chee Motors, Lili Clothing, Cool Solomons and Harmony were also represented.
Other businesses who have also given support to the event include Solomon Airlines, Soltuna, Origin Gas, Nicky’s Fast Food, Island Enterprises, Victory Trading Limited, Global Printing, Advanced Technology, DS Travellers and Breff Enterprises.
Solomon Islands Red Cross Malaita Branch is one of four branches of the National Society in the country.
The branch was started in the early 1980s by pioneer volunteers and continue to serve the people of the province in many of the disasters and emergencies that have occurred to the province since then.
