Solomon Island Red Cross (SIRC), Gizo Branch Officer in Charge, Ogier Kiko said, they have been activated since Monday following the seven confirmed positive cases from LC Nusa Tupe.
Mr Kiko said in terms of their operation, three staff and one volunteer are on standby.
He said currently they are liaising with the Provincial Emergency Oversight Committee (PEOC) to prepare for any emergency cases.
“As of now, we are on standby mode in preparation for any emergency needs where we can assist.
Mr Kiko said other plan of actions that they are preparing for will be approved by the executive.
He added they are also working in partnership with the other committees within the disaster committee.
“Currently we are working together with the Livelihood sector in Gizo and the Market Vendors Association to distribute food supplies to the Nusabaruku community where a group of people are still in isolation,” he added.
The officer then urges the people of the province to always comply with the rules and instruction from the health sector.
“These safety measures are very important and each and every-one of us must keep on re-enforcing those standard COVID-19 protocols like washing of hands, social distancing, avoid gathering and other safety measures,” he said.
