Executive members of the Renbel provincial government on Wednesday night hosted farewell function to two directors of Bintang Borneo mining company (BBMC) of Indonesia.
The ceremony was staged at Heritage Park Hotel in Honiara.
The two top directors who have spent a number of days in the country to sort out the company’s proposal to conducting bauxite prospecting in the province will return to Indonesian this weekend.
Government through the ministry of mines and energy mineral board had recently issued a mining prospecting licences to the company to conduct prospecting.
For now, the Bintang Borneo will have to wait for the landowners’ say on their proposal. Once approved proposed mining prospecting will be conducted on Rennell Island.
The province’s provincial secretary Peseika Baiabe yesterday said the farewell function was part of the Renbel provincial executive members’ way of acknowledging the visit by the two top officials.
“Our function on Wednesday night is part of a partnership we had with the company as it plans to invest in our province.”
Mr Baiabe said the two directors returned back to Indonesian and should be back in the country in two weeks’ time.
“They (directors) will return in two weeks time to hear about the landowner’s outcome.
“If landowners agree, then company should start setting up in Honiara to kick off its mining prospecting in Rennell,” he said.
Mr Baiabe said both the Renbel provincial government and the directors have assured each other of supporting the development in the province.
