Rennell and Bellona Premier Collin Tesuatai today met Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare where the two leaders discussed issues affecting the Province and its people.
At the meeting, Premier Tesuatai expressed his executive’s vision to restore and develop the province, most especially, taking back control over its administrative powers which are currently controlled by the Ministry of Provincial Government following the suspension of the former executive last year.
The Premier also highlighted his province’s development needs which ranges from infrastructure development, transportation, health and education, natural resources and other services sectors such as tourism and commerce.
“These are areas that really touch the heart of my province and its people, which have not been seriously addressed over the years,” Premier Tesuatai said.
He said the Renbel Provincial Government needs serious intervention and support from the national government if it is to deliver services and development to the people.
Premier Tesuatai also sought special support from the Government to aid its preparation towards hosting the Solomon Games in 2016, service its $1.9 million debt to institutions and service providers and support a proposed redundancy exercise and capacity building for direct provincial employees.
In his response, Prime Minister Sogavare expressed support and shared the Premier’s vision to develop the Province.
The Prime Minister acknowledged the issues raised and encouraged the Premier and his executive to work closely with the Central Government and their Member of Parliament to advance the interest of the province and its people.
Prime Minister Sogavare added that issues raised are genuine and that his government will work closely with the Renbel Executive to stake strategic steps to address them.
Premier Tesuatai was accompanied to the meeting by Deputy Premier Eric Suaeha, Benard Taugaika, Minister for Education and Sports, John Teno, Minister for Health and Medical Services and Deputy Provincial Secretary, Adrian Tuhanuku.
