Rennell Island in the Renbell province records the lowest temperature in the country’s history of 17 degree Celsius few weeks ago.
This was revealed by a meteorology officer during the commissioning of the weather station in Tingoa last week.
He told the Solomon Star that 17 degree Celsius was the lowest so far ever recorded and this cold temperature was reported from Rennell.
“That is why it is important for the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management and Meteorology (MECDM) to set up a weather station, so that information collected around our widely scattered provinces could well represented the climate in different locations,” he added.
He further stated that remote islands of the country that had their climate slightly different from the rest of our islands need a fully functional meteorological centre that can keep the nation and the world updated of information necessary for scientific researches.
