POLICE on Thursday denied rumours of clashes between supporters of rival intending candidates in various constituencies in the country.
Reports reaching this paper claimed that already clashes have already occurred between supporters of intending candidates in constituencies within Western, Malaita, Guadalcanal and Renbel Provinces.
However when asked, Police said no reports of such has been received over the past few days.
“These are mere speculations and rumours which need to stop before it sparks such unwanted and unlawful practices.
“No one wants such, as we all want clean and peaceful elections next month,” a spokesperson from the Police said.
Assistant Commissioner, Gabriel Manelusi had previously reiterated the need for Solomon Islands to have a free, clean and peaceful election when the nation goes to the poll next month.
He also added that reports of any anti-social behaviour would be looked seriously into, and that Police are assessing reports of rumours reaching them.
