THE affordable prices of hardware materials offered by BNBM, a Chinese-owned company that recently established itself in Honiara, has drawn interest in Malaita.
The company gained attention and praise from communities, including those in Malaita, for the high quality of hardware materials it offers at just low prices.
In response to this great news in the hardware market, many in Malaita are urging BNBM to consider establishing a branch in Auki.
A builder Nathaniel Maegwari expressed his support for such an investment.
He pointed out that for years, people like himself have struggled with the high cost of hardware materials sold by businesses in Auki.
“The cost of living is high in this country, and many villagers who want to build homes are finding it difficult to afford the expensive imported hardware materials available in Auki,” Mr Maegwari said.
He learned that a bag of cement at BNBM costs just $30, which is significantly lower than the $75 to $80 price range in Auki.
“Hardware materials sold in Auki are very expensive. There is a clear need for businesses that offer fair prices to the people,”
“I’ve learned that a bag of cement at BNBM is only $30. We need more businesses like this to help reduce the burden on local consumers,” Mr Maegwari said.
Mr Maegwari also criticised local businesses for overcharging, stating that many have been pricing their goods and services unfairly, taking advantage of the lack of competition.
“It’s time for the government and responsible authorities to investigate businesses that are overpricing goods and services in the country.”
“The government should look into the price differences between hardware shops in Honiara and Auki, and take action to ensure fair prices for all,” he said.
Since its set about a month ago, the hardware firm also supported Burns Creek SDA school with furnitures valued at $56, 000.00
