Dear Editor – Would be grateful if you can allow me to share my view with regards the matter ‘Respect for public property’ in the Solomon Island.
The Solomon Island has been fortunate to experience development and infrastructure growth much of which has been generously gifted by developers and international partners.
These developments play crucial role in improving our standard and fostering economic progress.
One of the most concerning issues in recent times is the disregard for public property, particularly new infrastructure.
Acts such as spiting betel nut stains or defacing building with drawings tarnish the beauty of these development and disrespect the effort and resources invested in them.
Such behavior is not only socially unacceptable but also contributes to the deterioration of public spaces meant for the collective good.
I strongly suggest that the policy makes implement stringent rules to curb these bad behaviors. introducing immediate penalties for damaging public property will act as a deterrent and encourage respect.
For instance, defacing or staining a new building should attract a hefty fine, ensuring that individuals think twice before engaging in such action. Highest penalties will send a clear message that this kind of behavior will not be tolerated.
Respecting public property is a reflection of our respect for ourselves and our country. Let us work together to preserve the beauty and integrity of our share for future generation.
