THREE containers of rice have been prepared and sent to flash flood victims of North East Guadalcanal on Wednesday.
Member of Parliament for North East Guadalcanal, Dr Derek Sikua helped pay for the rice which were loaded and delivered to polling stations in the constituency.
Guadalcanal plain was one of the worst hit areas in last week’s flash flooding with most of the people evacuated and now residing in evacuating centres.
Speaking at the Sol-rice headquarters where the containers were loaded onto trucks before transported, North East Guadalcanal CDO Ezekiel Alfred said that the bags of rice which are estimated up to 55 tonnes will be equally distributed to all polling stations in the constituency.
“We will distribute to all the polling stations where they will then be given to villages hit by the floods.
“Some of the people are currently in evacuation centres in town. They too will be visited and given their share,” Mr Alfred said.
Mr Alfred meanwhile thanked the government and their MP Dr Sikua for making possible that the relief aid be given their people, especially at a time when most of their gardens and food crops have been destroyed by the floods.
