The construction of a new wharf at Ringgi, South Kolombangara in the Western province had received positive response and wide support from Ringi and the surrounding communities.
Ringgi resident Derol Sikua told the Solomon Star yesterday expressing the excitement the community of Ringgi is going through.
Mr Sikua said for so long people in that part of the island had been without a proper wharf.
For years, Ringgi only uses a timber wharf which affects boats which wants to berth.
He said for years the communities have urged Kolombangara forestry products limited (KPFL) to build a proper wharf but received negative response.
Construction of the wharf is currently underway thanks to the Asian Development Bank (ABD) and support from Solomon Island government.
This year three new wharves will be constructed in the Western province.
The other wharves are Keru in North New Georgia and Gasini in the Marovo lagoon.
