Minister for the Ministry of Finance and Treasury (MoFT), Synder Rini has warned line government ministries not to cause too much headache to his ministry by sending incomplete PV (Payment Vouchers) or illegal claims for payment.
He said some of these payments were referred to the police and most of them from line ministries.
Speaking on the floor of parliament, Rini stressed this when answering to questions raised by Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Rick Hou.
Rini told parliament that most of the contractors claims halted by MoFT were from the government ministries through awards from their Ministerial Tender Boards (MTB).
He said ministries just keep sending in PVs without attempting to comply with the procedures in place;
“Therefore MoFT had to refer matters to the police or send the payments back to the responsible ministries.”
The minister was disappointed, thus reiterating that ministries must work alongside MoFT when raising payments.
“It is not good to keep sending in incomplete payments to add more headaches to his ministry.”
Meanwhile, the Minister told parliament that government finances are stable and intact.
