THE Cabinet Sub- Committee Secretariat under the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (OPMC) had initiated onto an ambitious implementation program on community partnership, investment and development for Russel Islands, reports the PM’s Press Secretariat.
This was stated during a briefing with the Chairman of the RIPEL Cabinet Sub Committee Chachabule Amoi at the OPMC, Thursday.
During the briefing, various issues relating to the complexities surrounding the now defunct coconut industry in Russell Islands were highlighted.
Director of RIPEL Cabinet Sub-Committee, Mr Daniel Fenua also confirmed the policy realignment from ‘resumption’ of RIPEL to a ‘cross sectoral approach’ to Russell Islands.
He further stated, “the approach will ensure local entrepreneurs are fully engaged in any commercial undertaking regarding their land and other resources”.
This projection is based primarily on a standing Memorandum of Understanding entered into between the Solomon Islands Government, Central Islands Province and the Russell Islands Investment Forum (RIIF).
This MoU was signed by Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare in September 2019.
Chairperson of the RIPEL Cabinet Sub- Committee stated his passion to ensure the work of the RIPEL Cabinet Sub-Committee is progressed positively and have tangible recommendations on outstanding issues.
The RIPEL Cabinet Sub- Committee, in collaboration with the Central Islands Province will soon consolidate potential local investments in Russel Islands, ready for investment and commercial undertaking.
The RIPEL Cabinet Sub- Committee is among a number of sub committees with its Secretariat headed by Mrs. Freda Unusi.
