Road blocks being erected to ask money from passing vehicles remains an issue in North West Guadalcanal.
And there had been concerns being raised about this.
Last Thursday, a group of men have set up road block in one of the bridges just further down after the Aruligo area who asked for money from passing vehicles passing through the bridge.
A notice was put up saying $20.00 for each passing vehicle.
A Honiara resident who traveled to Visale on Thursday said, he had to pay the amount before passing through.
He questioned why this had been done while the road and bridges are being built by government.
The man said, it seems these men have deliberately done this to collect some money before the Christmas day.
“Because on our way back from Visale, the men can be seen drinking at the side of the road and there was no road block.”
The man said, such practise is not good for the traveling public and community leaders, elders, and youth leaders in the area must educate their youths and men to refrain from doing this.
“It would be okay to ask money if only the bridge and the road have been damage and they have been involved in fixing them.
“But in this case, there was no major flooding and damages to the bridge and road, yet they ask for money.
“They had different motive altogether.”
The man who traveled with his family said, such practise will cause fear to the public wishing to travel down to Visale and the Selywn College area.
