Dear Editor – It is interesting! You go to the Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID) headquarters and at the side of the building there is a large notice board which introduces the basic functions of the ministry, one of which is Road Safety.
This morning (yesterday) on my way down to Point Cruz, I saw the current road development from the HCC roundabout to ITA and among my amazement is the painting of the road to distinguish the inner and outer lane and so forth.
Many will agree that this is something that was not seen after many years and I sincerely thank the current JICA road improvement project for this achievement.
My question when seeing this beautiful yet simple task (I gather), is what do the Ministry of Infrastructure really means when claiming that Road Safety is one of their core functions when simple things like painting of the road is something that in reality shows that Road Safety is not part of their roles at all.
Their only interest perhaps is getting contracts to road maintenance firms using sand to fix potholes on a tar sealed road and following up on Shipping grants!
I however applaud the RSIPF Traffic for their outstanding performance on road safety.
