Give away crucial lead
Robbers have escaped with undisclosed box of money after grabbing the box from two Asian businessmen outside the Bank South Pacific office in Central Honiara yesterday morning.
But they left a crucial lead for police. One of the men believed to have involved in the robbery failed to make it in the get-away car and was caught by bystanders.
Onlookers say, masked men armed with knives snatched the box from the two Asian business men as they were about to enter the Bank to deposit the money.
Police media reported that four men who wore masks approached in two cars and wrestle with the two men.
During the struggle, they grabbed the money bag with an undisclosed amount and sped off in the westerly direction.
Police confirmed that one suspect is in their custody and has been questioned.
Police say one of the Asian men sustained injuries to his back.
He was treated at the National Referral Hospital and later discharged.
Police say the culprits used two vehicles to escape with the money.
The registration plate number of one of the escaped vehicles was given to the police to help them in their investigation.
Meanwhile, police have call on the general public and eye witnesses who were present at the scene to provide any valuable information which would help them with their investigations.
Yesterday’s robbery outside the Bank South Pacific ,Point Cruz branch better known as former West Pac bank, happened at around 9 am when many members of the public were already on the street.
It was the second robbery at exactly the same spot, to a similar bank robbery last year when thieves took off with four million dollars.
