Churches have critical role to play in the education of students, Permanent Secretary for Education Dr Franco Rodie says.
He was speaking at the graduation ceremony of Saint Nicholas school, Friday.
“Churches in partnership with our schools can influence both the spiritual and social development of young people,” Rodie said.
“We should strive to create partnerships between schools and other community organisations and agencies in helping to create support systems that enable children and youth to learn and succeed and help families and communities prosper.”
Rodie said to be effective, partners need to engage in a thoughtful process and to define a vision and clear goals.
“Churches play important role of promoting school community ways to express the principles and values of Christianity in the decision making processes, policies and structures of the school.
“Through education authorities churches have continued to embrace and provide opportunity to teach a program as integral part of the total curriculum.”
He added churches also provide opportunities for young people to develop their spiritual nature including participation in meaningful and relevant Christian worship.
