Transparency Solomon Islands (TSI) Executive Officer Edward Ronia has strongly condemned corruption practices that continues to be entertained in the government.
In his short statement during the People’s Forum meeting in Honiara recently Ronia stated that unaccounted millions of dollars were swept under the carpet in the past years and not a single person had been jailed for these crimes.
He said, such controversial decisions were strong evidence of corruption, adding, there was corruption but it continued to prevail because the government facilitated it.
“We claimed to be a Christian nation but we never live up to the principles of Christ. Corruption has to be addressed from the top then down to the lowest level of our society,” he added.
He said, Solomon Islands has a lot of natural resources which could be used to feed everyone if managed well.
“But corruption does not allow that to happen, so country continues to suffer poverty while leaders enjoy corruption up there.
“Now our leaders are not ashamed of enjoying corruption and it becomes a normal practise,” he said, adding it wass really sad to see people making excuses on corruption to spoil this country.
