IN a joint effort to foster stronger connections with local residents and promote public safety during the festive season, a vibrant community outreach activity was conducted by the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) and China Police Liaison Team (CPLT) at Adaliua Community in East Honiara recently.
The event brought together officers, local leaders, and community members for awareness talks, cultural exchange and recreational activities with the aim of creating a harmonious community, while raising awareness about family violence, reckless drinking during holidays, the taking of illegal drugs and other emerging issues.
RSIPF Assistant Commissioner (AC), Simpson Pogeava acknowledged the significance of community policing and shared insights and practices he learnt from other countries and related them to the history of community policing in Solomon Islands.
AC Pogeava encouraged the community members to look after each other and work with police for consultation and negotiation to make a more organised community.
“We need to take ownership to solve our own problems,” he said.
CPLT Commissioner Liu Shenghuang recalled the bond between the CPLT and the Adaliue community and thanked the community chiefs, leaders and members for their active engagement, hospitality and friendship.
He reiterated CPLT’s commitment to support RSIPF in community policing and crime prevention.
RSIPF National Crime Prevention Department (NCPD) Deputy Director Staff Sergeant Raymond Togapada, RSIPF officers, and CPLT officers elaborated on safety tips during the holiday season.
During the programme, sports item donation, calligraphy demonstration, movie screening and volleyball games were organised to deepen community bonds.
The RSIPF and CPLT took the opportunity to convey their heartfelt festive wishes to the community.
